Another method that is used today is called the punch elevation. This method is also very painful and requires healing time on the part of the patient. It is good for the deep, pitted scars as well, but the method this time is to release the base of the scar from where it is attached and raise it up to the surface level of the skin. Then it is held in place to heal by a strip or glue so that the surface of the skin is flat again.
Punch elevation works very well for normal scars with flat edges. There are also treatment options available for mild acne scarring like chemical peels or laser resurfacing.
